Knight Costume for Kids

Knight Kids costumeTales with kings, queens and loyal knights have always been on top of children’s preferences. There’s the story tale element of princes rescuing damsels, of fairies and godmothers, of chivalrous knights battling for what’s right. The fascination with the medieval setting and characters is something which has transcended time and generations.  If your child shares the passion for knights, try a gorgeous knight costume and introduce them to the life children had before becoming knights.

Page

The page was a child of 7 to 10 years old who was removed from mundane family life in order to receive proper training to become a knight. In the first stage of the training, the child would be made a page and during this period they will be familiarized with horsemanship, introduced to the weapons a knight must use and will perform different duties around the knight’s castle.

Squire

If your boy is older than that, you can promote him to the rank of squire. The squires, boys over 14, were taught how to use the sword, were in charge of polishing the knight’s armor and his weapons and were introduced to a special training meant to improve their physical abilities. Also, the code of chivalry and the rules of perfect moral conduct were taught to them. In order to make them proud of becoming a knight, they were told stories about the great knights of the time.

Full Knight

The age of 21 was the time when most of the squires could become knights. A special ceremony was held in the honor of the new knight, usually sprinkled with religious symbols to make knights lawful on earth and in front of God.

Medieval knight child costumeWhile the page and squire outfits were usually plain, the knights had shiny armor and bright colored clothes made of great materials. Thus, it is almost certain that your child will like the knight costumes better than the page and squire ones. So, in order to rise up to their expectations you should purchase them a chainmail-like knight costume, match it with a sword and shield and be ready for the battle as your little knight will provoke anyone to duels.

A medieval knight costume can be a very good way of sharing with your child the knowledge you know about knights. Being dressed as one of the characters of the story, they will be more likely to involve in it and listen to its ending more carefully then simple bedtime stories. Also, it will make the storytelling more dynamic and will stir their imagination even more.

Most knight costumes are also extremely accurate looking and highly comfortable, so your child will actually feel like an heroic character out of a fabulous legend. Just wait and see the stories they have to tell when they get back from an exciting Halloween “knight” of trick or treating!
